Antoine Tamestit, viola

I am a passionate musician and violist, presenting recitals, concerts and chamber music all over the world. I love traveling and sharing music with the public and people from different cultures. I have had the privilege, for more than fifteen years, of playing a viola – the Mahler viola – made by Stradivarius in 1672, generously on loan from the Habisreutinger Foundation.

This is how our new artist-in-residence Antoine Tamestit defines himself, who has also been artist-in-residence with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2021-2022 and at the Prague Spring Festival. In November 2022, he received the Paul Hindemith Award in Hanau (Germany). His technique and musicality are combined with his intense and rich sound, which he displays in a wide repertoire that ranges from baroque to contemporary music. Tamestit usually plays with major international ensembles such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Orchester de Paris, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia or Mahler Chamber Orchestra and is a regular soloist with conductors such as Gardiner, Gilbert, Pappano, Petrenko, Rattle and Thielemann.
